What we collect, why, who handles it, and what you can ask for.
Who we are
Many On One is operated by Leave Only What Matters Limited, a company registered in England and Wales, number 17231249, registered office 17 Ethelbert Crescent, Margate, England, CT9 2DY (the "operator", "we"). Payments are currently collected through the operator's associated venue business, Faith In Strangers; the operator remains responsible for them. We are the data controller for the personal data described here. Contact: hello@manyonone.com.
What we collect, and why
- When you join. Name, email, your field or organisation type, a link you choose to give, and the problem or note you write. Purpose: to keep you on the record, to reply to you, and to build the public list of problems. Lawful basis: your consent, given by submitting the form, and our legitimate interest in running the project.
- When you nominate someone. Their name and public handle, your reason, and your name and email. Purpose: to contact them once, with your reason and your name. Lawful basis: legitimate interest. If they ask us not to keep it, we delete it.
- When you back the search. Stripe handles the payment and holds your card details; we never see them. We receive your name, email and the amount. Purpose: to record the backing, credit you on the record, and write to you. Lawful basis: contract and legitimate interest.
- When you write to Many, on X or by email. The public handle or address you used, the messages both ways, and any problem you named. Purpose: to reply and to keep a record of the conversation. Lawful basis: legitimate interest. Public posts on X that Many reads are public data.
- When you visit. The page, the referring site, the country, whether you are on a phone, and a code made from your connection and browser that changes every day and cannot be turned back into you. No cookies, no advertising trackers, no third-party analytics. Purpose: to count visits. Lawful basis: legitimate interest.
- When you sign in to vote (when voting opens). Your email, for a sign-in link. Your browser keeps the session locally.
Many is a machine
Replies from Many on X and by email are written by an AI system and sent automatically within limits we set. A person reads everything it sends. Many's replies do not make decisions with legal or similarly significant effects about you. You can ask for a person at any time by writing to hello@manyonone.com. Details: how Many works.
What we publish
The public list shows problems people have named and, where a public handle was used on X, that handle. It shows counts of who has joined, by role and field, never names or emails. Backers appear by first name and initial. We never publish amounts against names. If you want your name or handle removed from anything public, tell us and we will.
Who processes data for us
- Supabase (database, hosted in London).
- Vercel (website hosting; requests may be served from outside the UK).
- Resend (sending and receiving email).
- Stripe (payments; its own privacy policy applies).
- Anthropic (the AI model that writes Many's replies; message content is sent to it to draft a reply, and is not used to train models under our agreement).
- X Corp (for anything that happens on X; its own policy applies).
- Google Workspace (our mailbox).
Some of these providers are in the United States. Transfers rely on the UK Extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or standard contractual clauses.
How long we keep it
Records of people and conversations: for as long as the project runs, or until you ask us to delete them. Page counts: 13 months. Payment records: six years, as the law requires. If you unsubscribe, we keep your email on a do-not-contact list so we do not write to you again.
Your rights
You can ask to see what we hold about you, correct it, delete it, restrict or object to how we use it, or receive a copy to take elsewhere. Write to hello@manyonone.com; we answer within a month. You can stop Many's emails with the link in any of them. You can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Children
The site is for people aged 16 and over. If you think we hold a younger person's data, tell us and we will delete it.
Changes
When this policy changes, the date at the top changes, and material changes go in Many's Sunday note.
